You have to find 2 of the same numbers that will multiply with 1 to make 49. 1 doesn't do anything so basically you need 2 numbers that equal 49. 7 x 7 is 49, so...
x = 7

49=1(x)(x)
49=1x*2
49/1=x*2/1
49=x*2
7=x because the sqaure root of 49 is 7.
in other words.. 7 times 7=49.
p.s. you can check ur answer whenever you want by plugging 7 i for x
so:
49=1(x)(x)
49=1(7)(7)
49=7(7)
49=49 (checks to be a true statement which means 7 is the correct solution for the problem/variable x).
hope i helped!!!...

+7 or -7 would be correct.... since the number will be squared/multiplied by itself, a +ve or -ve integer would still yield a +ve number for an answer.
