You are correct. Most marriages fail. Due in part to human nature. Humans are dynamic emotional creatures. Our feelings and loyalties can change over-time. Is it not possible to feel differently over-time about something? Have you ever changed your opinion or stance on something? Are you the same person you were five, ten or twenty years ago? Probably not. That's why all married couples will say in the beginning that their marriage will last, yet sadly, most will end up in divorce. Why? Because our world around us changes and people change. For those couples that truly stay together till "Death do you part." and still love each other is an event truly worthy of the highest praise. It is also a falicy that marriage was created because of love. The main reason marriage came into being was to settle right to property. It was common during the Roman and Greek times for a couple to be married and for the man (and even the woman) to have multiple sex partners, including gay sex. It was not viewed as bad or even Un-Christian at the time. The reason for marriage however, changed over-time (in part due to leaders of organized religion) and couples became married because they loved each other and were no longer allowed to have sex outside of marriage. In the year 866 A.D., Pope Nicholas I declared, "If the consent be lacking in a marriage, all other celebrations, even should the union be consummated, are rendered void" Meaning, the married couple had to remain loyal to each other, emotionally and sexually. Hello !! I have been with my man 9 years and two children and I know we are committed to each other and would never be unfaithful but I feel these days marriage has been twisted into a fairy tail of unrealistic expectations. I love my guy and if I was to get married I would expect more and I don't know if that's realistic. I do not want to use our marriage as a tool of power or threats but as a reminder of our love for each other and We have. But our children do that better than a peace of paper.

If I could do it over, I would recommend not getting married, our relationship before marriage was a lot better and I have only been married for less than 5 months.

No point in it. Except the insurance. tax cuts, and all of that stuff.

I am married and I now wished we had just remained in a relationship. It would have been so much better for us. Marriage changes things, it's like everyone you know takes on a different mindset.

Dont do it.

What's the point in playing slot machines or lottery? Most of the time, you don't win. The promise of an elusive reward is a great motivator for people. I know I'm willing to risk big to win big. (I don't play the lottery or go to Vegas, but I'm willing to give marriage a shot and try to make it work, for the reward of having a companion by my side to grow old with.)

It's pretty much impossible to raise a family without one. The tax beifits and the social contract allow you to raise dependents and count on your children having consistent male and female role models. Without those things it's unlikely you would manage to produce healthy offspring.
