I live in Australia and Blue Swimmer crabs are frequently on the menu and are sold at the local seafood market so they are local to New South Wales for sure. I don't know where else they are.
Blue Swimmer Crabs are widely distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific region from east Africa to Japan, Tahiti and northern New Zealand. They are also present in the Mediterranean Sea. In Australia, Blue Swimmer Crabs inhabit coastal waters from the south coast of New South Wales, up and around to Perth in Western Australia.

Blue crabs are know for being native to the area of Maryland. So, they would be from the Atlantic Ocean. Although you can occasionally find them in other close areas (Virginia, DC, etc. . . .) they are famous as Maryland Blue Crab!

You can find blue crabs in SF Bay. As a matter of fact, go to Treasure Island, throw a net with turkey bait and pull it up after a couple of minutes and you'll catch some.
