A lot depends on the depth of your friendship and how much your friend likes this boy. If you're both mature and she doesn't like him as much as you do, it could work, but in all honesty it's probably better for neither one of you to date the guy. It may cause resentment and jealousy and do permanent damage to your friendship.
I have had my best friend for 26 years and although boys have gotten in the way a time or two and threatened the friendship, we have done our best to stay close and not let them come between us.
Good luck and remember, there are plenty of fish in the sea! ;-)

How old are you? If you're under 17, 18...go to your room.
Ok I am being an idiot. If he ask YOU out...I guess that pretty much tells you he likes you...not your friend. Now BE OPEN with your friend...don't let her hear that from someone else... tell her he ask you and see what she says... tell her you won't let anything separate you two...if she's a real friend of yours..she'll understand...if not..oh well...let her go.

if this girl is your best friend, there shouldnt be a problem with you going out with the guy. i mean there might be some jealously of course but you should be able to get through that easily. go out with the guy, see how it goes. the same thing happened to me (but the girl wasnt my best friend, just someone i was getting ot know) and now we're really good friends and im still going out with the guy.

If she is truly your friend, she'll understand. You can't pass up every opportunity in life simply because your friends don't approve. They aren't you and they don't have to live your life. Don't deny yourself an experience only to find out later that she may or may not have been willing to show you the same respect. Go out with him and have a good time.
