What I'm asking is, can you begin a grammatically-correct sentence with the word "perhaps" followed by an inference of some sort?
Is that "correct"? If not, what other word could I use?
Thanks.

Yes.

Perhaps you ought to get a second opinion regarding this question.

You should not start sentences with "however", "but", "or", or "and". "Perhaps" is ok.

If you must use this abomination of a word, surely the I, as the first person singular pronoun, should be capitalised wherever it appears in a sentence. ima looks odd. But applying lexical strictness to a sloppy slang word might be a lost cause anyway. Don't suppose I shall ever use it myself, but I agree with you about slang words gaining respectability over time. Like innit - another horrible word that I only use ironically (so that's OK then). It is very useful, and French and German already have a single expression - n'est-ce pas and nicht wahr - for all the isn't it, are you, may we, couldn't it be, ought they to have .. etc expressions. That one will gain currency I am sure, so Ima might do as well. As long as you SPELL IT WITH A CAPITAL I.

The word perhaps is used instead of the word maybe or possibly. If you started a sentence with the word perhaps, it would most likely be understood that you're referring to a previous statement.

Certainly.

You may also start a sentence, a correct sentence, with and or but. (I don't remember the other words the poster mentioned.) Sometimes they are the best words with which to begin! Only anal primary educators still correct them.

And I'll fight anyone who disagrees! But, of course, you might feel differently about it.

(Please note that in any post on the topic of correct writing, I am almost guaranteed to make a mistake!)

Perhaps (maybe; possibly) you might award me 10 points for this grammatically correct sentence.

Perhaps you might use this word in place of the word "maybe" and still be grammatically correct.

:)

Perhaps it is time I get off of Answers and get a life; however, to answer your question "perhaps" is correct.
