Well...there was his serve, which was dominating, but maybe the most iconic move was when he'd force a lob out of his opponent, and jump and rise up in the air to do an overhead smash while getting vertical. I like to call it the Air Sampras, or maybe the Ninja Kid. He got up there.

I agree with Skywalker. His signature move was putting people to sleep! However, he didn't dominate opponents like Federer does. Meaning, he didn't break opponents serve. Most of Sampras' matches were scored 6-4,7-5,7-5. Federer wins - 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.

His serve was the biggest and baddest in the game. He spent a lot of prep time before he served tugging at the top of the shoulder of his shirt pulling up the sleeves a little bit to get out of the way for his full range of motion extension when he hit his serve. I recall something with touching his nose, but that might not be right.

I think it was the sleeper hold in which he put the entire viewer audience to sleep even though he dominated opponents. I know Federer does the same thing (dominating) but he does it in a way that makes you amazed. Sampras did it with just a serve and I found his game terribly boring.

it's called the slam dunk overhead, lol. actually, i don't know the term for it but it sure reminds me of michael jordan.

other moves uniquely sampras:

the lethal first serve, i don't know if anybody's has come close to its power and grace....many big servers out there- roddick, rafa, safin, fed, philippousis in his prime, maybe rafter too - but no one like pete. his service game is a real killer...

the big second serve.....he's scored aces with this one, can you believe it?

the cross court forehand......pure artistry

Besides the obvious serve (especially his 2nd serve - his motion was claaasic) Either his "skyhook" overhead smash where he got air and crushed lobs, OR the on the run forehand where he baited you to hit to the open court and he crushed it on the run back to you with interest

I think he's signature move was when he serve, he always puts his tongue out. Because of that he pulls out an ace most of the time.
