Why a minority cannot be racist?
Why only whites can be racist?
A City Comissioner in Orlando said this and I do not understand.

that city commisioner obviously has an agenda and his statement is misleading. Racism is predjudice- prejudging someone according to the color of their skin or ethnicity. Racism is an attitude that can easily be held by anyone. I know of black people that don't trust white people- just because they are white- they refuse to give them a chance to prove otherwise

1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

none of the above definitions are limited to white people or are exclusive of a minority

The United ***** College Fund discriminates against whites or races other than black- fits definition #2
There are MANY other examples!

A Minority can predjudice but they cannot be a racist because to be a racist you have to have oppressed another group of people. The African Americans have not oppressed anyone because one we were captive for 400 yrs. The same holds true for Native Americans. I dont think that applies to any other minority because of the fact theyve all bought, sold and owned slaves.
The white man can be a racist because historically they have planted the seeds.

Whereas a member of a minority group can most certainly be racist, and so, of course, it follows that racism is not attributable to 'only whites,' . . . The Orlando City Commissioner certainly demonstrated that a city commissioner CAN be ignorant. :)

That is not true, as a matter of fact some minorities are racist against their own, like when their color of their skin is lighter, also if one has long flowing hair and they don't. My child, there is racism everywhere within and out of their races. I don't know how this person could come up with something like this.

anyone that hates another person because of their race is racist.

many white people were racist after the civil war because of the fact that they lost a lot of money, and they were not only racist against black people they were against anyone from the north.

you do not have to oppress anyone to be a racist. you just have to view them as less tan you because of their race.

when i was in high school, i got into a fight with a blakc guy,
there were 3 black people in my school. this guy had just moved to the school from new york, and he thought that he was some tough MFer...he kicked the side of my car after school because he did not like the garth brooks song that i was listening to.... well
when you go and do something stupid like that in a redneck school you have an *** whoppin comming... it really was not much of a fight because he ran like hell as soon as i got out of the car, ( i was about 3 times his size) the next day he started talking some s**t to me and then i did hit him....

an hour later in the principals office he tried to say that i was a racist and that i only hit him because he was black...i told the principal that he kicked my car and did about 400 bucks worth of damage to my fender (house of colour paint very expensive)
and that he started on me again when i got to school....so in true redneck form i knocked his a** down,,

well to make a very long story a little bit short everyone in the school stood up for me but it was my girlfriens and har family that meant the most....the other 2 black kids in the school were my girlfriend and her sister.

I don't understand either. When I've heard it before the speaker was playing an "I am exempt from criticism one up manship." Unless racism has changed from stereotyped imaging of a person, then any and all minorities can/do stereotype.
If the minority person said that, by the way, it is stereotyping racism.

Just b/c one person in the world says something doesn't make it fact.
A minority can be a racist. Everyone can be a racist.
This commissioner's opinion is what's wrong with the world today.

anybody can be racist......fyi to neurotic4......who do you think sold the slaves to the white people...it was other African tribes and it was other Native American tribes that scouted for the white people. It seems ridiculous to say anybody is above being racist...it just means pre-judging someone else because of race

I believe what the commisioner meant is that minorities try not to be racist. And some whites are. There is racism in all colors, races and creeds. No one race is exempt from racism. Just my two cents worth.
