No, and statistics prove it:
Motorcycle rider fatalities as well as registrations have been on the rise since 1997. A recent report card issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for 2003 says that 3661 motorcyclists died in 2003, a 12% increase from 2002 and a 74% jump from 1997. An additional 67,000 were injured, 4% more than those injured in 2002.
<<>
Helmets saved approximately 1158 lives in 2003; another 640 lives could have saved if helmets were worn.

I've seen a lot of accidents because the motorcycle was doing something stupid. For example, passing 2 cars in between 2 lanes going 20 MPH faster than the cars.
Drivers do need to do their part too. Especially since the person on the motorcycle is so much more at risk.

Generally, I would agree with that. Then again, we all have that 'motorcycle buddy' who drinks too much, then rides off on his bike and operates the bike like a dope.
Bike wrecks are caused greatly because people say they cannot see the motorcycle. The cyclist then needs to be sure
1. the lights on the bike are working properly and at the right tilt
2. they are constantly checking their mirrors as much as the road ahead of them. So many are hit from behind and may have prevented it by seeing what was coming up
3. drive safely for you and enough for the cars around you. Expect the cars DO NOT see you, and this will make a huge difference in your chances of avoiding a collision.

I would not say idiots in their cars, I think it is more that motorcycles do not register on some peoples mind. They (cagers) do not think about us, and thus we sort of get missed in the scan for traffic. On the other hand, I have seen plenty of bikes with idiots on them. Cutting in front of cars, screaming through traffic, splitting lanes (where not legal). These are the guys that give us a bad name, and up the accident rate.

Depends on the incident. I've seen it both ways...idiots who are in cars and I've seen idiots that are doing 100+ on a bike down the middle of the highway. There's also the "accident" accident scenario, sometimes it's just because of a true accident, a blown tire or whatever.

No, alot of younger stupid kids are getting bikes too big and ripping up and down the roads before they have experience driving. Thats why more motorcycle acciddents are happening. All you have to do is make them have at least 3 years driving experience driving a car/truck so they know the rules and everything.

thats a tough question to answer not only as a car driving motorcyclist or as a former wrecker driver that has seen hundreds of car motorcylce accidents i would have to say about half of vehicle motorcyle accidents are faulted to the driver of the car but the other half is the motorcyclists fault i have seen many motorcycle accidents that no one else was involved so it all depends on how you look at things

Not always, i used to think that until some idiot doing nearly a ton on a bike undertook me as I was pulling in from the fast lane to let him pass,
You can bet if i knocked him off people would think it was my fault, however he was in the wrong and put his and my life at risk.
Drivers have a responsibility to motorbikes, but it also goes the other way.

All of the near misses I had while riding were because that the cagers did something stupid. It seems that up here in northern Ohio, we lose a few riders on the first warm day of spring. They are usually sport bikes traveling at high speeds. Be careful out there.

Its actually a fact. Do a search for the "Hurt Report". Its 1981 investigation done by researcher, "Harry Hurt.
Among other things, he found that most mc wrecks are caused by cars turning left in front of us.
