There is a big difference between insults vs threats or libel. I do believe politicians including of president, vice president and member of congress are constantly being insulted and are open game. That is guarantee by our 1st Amendment rights. Just look at all those political jokes that are floating around or stay up for some of the late night comedy shows. However, if the insults becomes threats or libelous, then there is where our liberty face some limitation. There are laws that deal with that.

Democratic government does not mean they have free speech...
In the USA we can demonstrate against the president and vice president without getting jailed.. as long as we follow the laws pertaining to demonstrations or gatherings... like no blocking traffic without a permit... etc.

The way I see it a president has to earn respect. Just like any other person. And if someone feels they haven't done what they're getting paid to do, then he should be able to say what he wants. Freddom of speech right? Otherwise it'd be a totalitarian government and not a "democracy." He shouldn't be jailed because he doesn't agree with the prez.

Just being democratic (or representative) in nature doesn't require that level of freedom of speech. So, yes, it could easily happen.
In fact, it's been threatened in the US many times, and the only thing stopping it is the plain text of the 1st Amendment. How long that will remain a deterrent to govt abuses of power remains to be seen.

i think if its non threatening and not a constant happening by the same person or organization coz that would fall under harassment it should fall under the freedom of speech which is a joke any more but at the same time calling names and insults are very childish in my eyes and one should handle things in a more mature manner it gets more accomplished and you don't have to stoop down to a lower level to get a point across.
