Piano
I can play every instrument in the orchestra. I taught instrumental music for many years. I started with piano. Guitar is one of the easiest instruments to play.

Well, the guitar is faster to learn. Three chords -- C, G, and F -- make up most popular tunes and almost anyone can learn how to 'fret' these chords in a matter of hours. Guitars are easy to take with you, and cost less to own than a piano. Is if 'harder' means 'more time,' then I'd say the piano is the harder instrument to learn.

I was asked this the other day being a music teacher, and it comes down to this, the piano is the most difficult instrument to learn to play for this reason with the piano it's a static board in that there are obstacles that your fingers have to avoid ( raised black keys) secondly unlike the guitar playing the piano generally requires that you play seperate sequences of notes with the right and left hand thus you have you to concentrate on two things at once whereas with the guitar you keep rhythm with one hand and sound the note or notes with the other which is the equivilant of keeping the beat with your foot while listening to a peice of music thus the need to multi task is less important I play several instruments piano being my first instrument i taught myself the guitar within two months because i could never find a guitarist (hard to believe lol!!!) and never in my life did i find an easier instrument to play. if you picked up the guitar sat down with a chord chart for a day or two and learned three chord shapes you could pretty much play any song out there (with a little thinking of course!) but to get a decent tune out of a piano your looking at spending the next year toiling over scales. If you want to learn to play an instrument for fun with minimal effort learn to play the guitar if on the other hand you want to pour blood sweat and tears into something thats equaly enjoyable but will take a little longer choose the piano.

depends on what kind of music you want to learn to play. Grunge guitar is a lot easier then Concierto de Aranjues.
For piano it's the same thing. So there you have it.
But in general for piano there is a higher standard to be considered a pianist, then to become a guitarist. So piano is more difficult.

piano is easy by comparison. you hit the keys, it plays an Abcdefg...and not a lot else.
the guitar also plays abcdefg, but the fret and string combinations are almost endless, as to where you can play the abcdefg, and of course you can alter the sound, in so many ways. one hand strums or picks, and the other is running up and down the fret..and its all got to happen at the same time.. its hard, ive tried, which is why daughter plays guitar, little sister plays the piano (and digeridoo) and play harmonica... ten holes is dead easy to master.
but thousands of folks manage it, and really enjoy it, some even manage to make a living at it... but its lots of practice, jess plays at least an hour a day...even if its just scales and chords. little sister learned on a piano (as did they both) but prefers her yamaha keyboard, and midi sound generator... that and the piano wont go in her bedroom and its got no headphone socket!

I play guitar, but never attempted learning piano.
My guess is that there are plenty of kids that learn piano, but it's a challenge teaching a kid to play guitar. So my guess is guitar is harder to learn.

Depends on the individual as you can see from the answers above. Try both. I can play bass and rhythm, but was never any good at lead guitar. I learned how to read music and could play a couple tunes on the piano (poorly but recognizable). But bass is my passion. It's up to what you feel best with.

Mmm, not sure. I'd say piano though. If you play, say Beetles, music on the guitar they only use about 3 or 4 chords. A piano is more intricate.
I don't play any by the way,

I play both and it was harder for me to learn the piano. The guitar is quite easy once you know your chords.
