The Constitution was written to address the areas of individual and society rights and freedoms. What rights the Crown denied were identified and written into the Constitution to protect the hard won victory. The right to bear arms was identified to allow citizens the freedom to have and keep weapons in their homes. Where self-incrimination was used to deny people protection under the law off the land, people were protected from beatings and torture to get them to confess. Freedom of speech was guaranteed to allow people the freedom to say their opinion, without worry of reprisals.

The vast majority of it is written in terms of limitations, requirements and restrictions imposed on the federal government.

That comes from the basic core of the war -- that the central government of England was too powerful, and too uncontrolled, and could get away with anything it wanted becauase the people were powerless to stop it through legal channels.

230 years later, we are seeing the process happen again.
