I have a couple of pairs and love them! I wear them for hip-hop and to teach jazz, but they still aren't the best things to wear when pointing your toes makes a difference. But it does make it easier to stand on the ball of your foot. Personally, I love them and actually do wear them (sometimes) instead of tennis shoes when I am out and about.

Yeah, I have dance sneakers by Capezio. They feel like the sole is too wide and clumsy, and they feel like "where the heck did the heels go". They also feel like I'll never get blisters in million years. But that is in exchange of not being able to feel the floor.

I use them whenever I don't need to do very serious dancing, I need to be able to dance on the bad floor or even on asphalt. I also use them when I need to memorise long choreography without working the technique fully. My regular dance shoes have 3" heels, so everything feels a bit different without heel. They are great for school activities fair when we promote our team - that involves running on the grass, dancing on the asphalt, stepping in occasional dirt and so on.

I avoid using them as a street shoe because it has no arch support and that is not very good for my feet. Walking in them feels like I'm about to fall backwards. Maybe it's just me and my sneakers.

If you're thinking of dancing seriously - get other dance shoes in addition to sneakers. If you're dancing socially, like salsa at nightclubs - then sneakers are probably sufficient for starters, and then you can decide.

I know people use dance sneakers for hiphop as a preferred choise of shoes.

I have used different brands of dance sneakers in the past. They are fine to wear outside of dance. As for dance, it doesn't work for Jazz because you can not work through your feet. I can't stand people who wear them for Hip Hop because they look like Jazz dancers trying to do Hip Hop. I don't let my students ever wear them. If you do get them, wear them out (not only at dance) that way you will get some use out of them!
