According to dictionary.com, beauty is the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest). In other words, beauty depends on what is considered "satisfying" to the observer. As the saying goes, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Nobody can tell you what beauty is since everyone has their own definition of the word that goes along their individual preferences. It's just like asking someone what is fun or tastes good. Everyone doesn't like the same things, whether it has to do with food or entertainment; however, there are general trends in what people like. Society and human nature shapes people's views of what it ideal as well as the things they should like. The media tells people that being skinny and well groomed are virtues while being fat and sloppy are not. There are many people who disagree with this standard but being taught what society calls beauty from the time of birth influences tons of people, consciously and subconsciously.
