Some areas of work lend themselves to wearing blue jeans. Others do not. Society and fashion idols have deemed it necessary for people to wear more formal clothing, especially if they are part of a profession. As a teacher of 40 years (now retired), I remember telling teachers that if they want to be treated and considered as professional, then dress like one. Teachers who wear informal clothing such as blue jeans and tee shirts are an embarrassment to the profession. They need to be adults, not reborn teenagers.

Chow!!

I'm a teacher and we can wear nice jeans. Then every Friday is school spirt day and we wear jeans and a school t-shirt that has our school colors. Since it is football season right now most of the school shirts support the football team

When I first entered the workplace in my office, it was women with skirts and men with slacks and never the twain shall meet. Then women could wear slacks and as time rolled by, knowing we hardly if ever actually see the public, we changed to casual Fridays. Now, it's a free-for-all...shorts, slacks, tank tops...the only rules they place on us is no t-shirts with logos on like sports t-shirts. Otherwise, it doesn't matter as long as we're comfortable and get a good day of work done.

Teachers wear jeans every day. I choose not to because it undermines the little bit of respect I get from the students...

We get alot of visits from our clients in my office, so we typically have to dress in business casual or professional dress to maintain a professional apperance. But if, we don't have any client visits on that Friday, we are typically always allowed to wear jeans and T-shirts on Fridays.

It really depends on your work's dress code. Many places want to portray a professional image, and jeans are a more casual look than is appropriate.

Its called a dress code. Clothes say alot about appearance and the company the person is representing. In other words it can be tacky.
