Three things
1. Gasoline explodes right?? How much hydrogen was in the blimp, I don't know exactly but I can say it was a whole lot more than in these cars!!! You get that much gasoline in one place, add a spark, you'll see a pretty big explosion there too!!!
2. the system that is under development uses hydrogen from water transforms water into hho gas (the difference between h2o and hho id the chemical bonds have been broken making it less stable and obviously a gas. we wouldn't need hydrogen stations, just purified water!!
3. Hydrogen highways?? Why would we need a separate highway system for a car that was run by hydrogen??

Check out this link for more information on the BMW hydrogen cars.

It is probably not a hoax. BMW is a reliable company.

But the cost of the car and the expense of its upkeep and keeping it running are probably still more than a regular gasoline or diesel car.

The concept of a hydrogen car is not a hoax but the practical reality is definitely questionable.

The first problem is that there are no hydrogen wells. Hydrogen must be produced by using more energy than it will ever yield. If you look at all the energy losses along the way, only about 20% of the energy needed to make hydrogen will ever drive your car. The rest is lost as waste heat. Nuclear power is the only viable energy source to do this.

The second issue is storage. For every pound of hydrogen it takes about 20 pounds of storage equipment (whether a compressed gas tank or a metal hydride). This means that the range between fillups will be very short. Hydrogen is no more dangerous to store than propane or natural gas. It is just very inefficient to store.

It's not a hoax, it's just a long way off from reality. Think about it, we still will have to set up the "hydrogen highways", or gas stations that you can get hydrogen at. Also, the safe storage of the hydrogen is still being researched. We can't just store it as a gas, it's too dangerous.

remember the Hindenburg? Hydrogen is dangerous. All the car bombers will like them.
