Do you wash all light clothes together, darks together, no matter what the item? Or do you separate them by function? For example, all towels together, all socks, all jeans? Streetclothes separate from jammies, etc..?

I would separate the darks from the lights, and you could also put the delicates or unmentionables in a separate pile and then you could wash the clothes by how dirty they are like the towel and face cloths. These items would problem need to be washed together because they get the most use.

In our house, the deciding factor is whether it's going to be bleached. So white things (kitchen towels, T-shirts, some underwear, some socks, etc.) all go in the washer together, and they all get bleached.

Things that do NOT get bleached (jeans, towels, most of my shirts, colored underwear, some socks, etc.) all go in at the same time.

I don't bother changing the temperature of the water, I just dump in detergent and, if they're white things, bleach and wait till it says it's done. Then I throw them in the dryer, remembering to clean the lint trap, pick a start time and hit the button.

Because there are five of us in the family, we TEND (but it's by no means a hard and fast rule) to do each person's wash more or less together, except for my wife and I. But that's because the kids each have their own hamper, and my wife and I share one.

(Well, okay... so what we REALLY do is toss our dirty clothes onto the floor of the closet at the end of the day, and when it gets to the point where I don't have any clean underpants, I furiously pick things up off the closet floor and shove as many as I can find into the hamper, drag it grumbling and stomping to the laundry room, and run a load of whatever I can find to fill up the washer. )

When my babies were babies I would always wash there things separate to everybody else. But now days I do towels by them self's and all the other cloths together. I do wash the boys school uniforms separate as well grey pants with grey pants and the white shirts with white shirts.other then there school cloths I don't buy much if any thing else that is white only because my family are like me every time I wear white with out fail I will spill something on it.but not the same with colour cloths.

darks in one wash, wash in another. towels I wash all together. street cloths and Jammie's go together in the dark if the color is dark or if they are white in the white wash. the white wash I use Clorox so they stay white also using arm and hammer. I used many others like tide and they make alot of soap, so I started to use arm and hammer the best. if you wash the whites with the darks because people are to lazy to separate the whites will come out pink because colors ruin. many people are to lazy to separate. I have been separating for 38 years. my cloths come out clean and bright. also when you do the white wash use hot water and for the colored wash use warm.

I am so picky when it comes to laundry. I do socks and underwear together and wash them in hot water to get any stains and smells out. I wash my jeans together just because I have enough jeans for one load, haha. I wash a load of darks, a load of lights, a load of towels, and then I have those things that you absolutely need to wash seperately or else they'll bleed all over everything else or make the rest of your clothes fuzzy... Like I said, I'm picky, so I kind of remember how each piece of clothing I own needs to be laundered. I love my clothes, they're like my babies! :) The less clothes you own, the easier it is to remember those types of things, I think. Hope that helps!

When I do laundry I sort by WHITES are all together so I can use bleach and softener with hot water, then I put all the dark color shirts together, then all of the jeans together, then the towels so I can use a little bit of bleach and softener and last my sheets, and I use cold water for the rest of my loads to save money on the gas bill!

i always wash towels separate because greasy or dirty dish towels can transfer to your clothing. All clothing i separate to lights and darks unless im bleaching once a month or so, cold water is the safe way to go and i like to use hot on towels.when in doubt wash separate or test colorfastness in a sink first.

I don't have a ton of time to separate my clothes too much; but I always wash towels and sheets separate, along with lights and darks. Occasionally I will have a load of delicates, consisting of bras and underwear. However, I pretty much stick to the old fashioned lights and darks.

whites, light colors, and dark colors.. I use cold water on all.
If some whites need bleaching I run a small load for just them. otherwise all loads are to full limits. If dark clothes are extremely dirty or I don't want them to go with my clothes I will wash a small load of heavily soiled dark by themselves. There are somewhat rules to washing clothes, but people have such a variety of dirty laundry. You have to pick the best solution for your circumstances and the least amount of water to waste.
