Isn't it funny how you declared your straightness so no one here would assume you were gay? That's why they use gay a derogatory word. People think there is something wrong with it.

Look no further than their parents! As long as parents advance bigotry and prejudice, we will have our children serving life terms in prison for crimes committed out of hate...and the parents then shake their heads and wonder why????
Such a waste of energy and lives. You would think we would learn, but there are those who go to great lengths to feel superior to someone else, aren't there? Only when WE, as a people speak up to bigotry, only when we DO NOT laugh at jokes that promote hate, only when we stand up and say, "Enough is enough" will things change. I am very sorry to say that I believe a real rebellion is in the making. Gays have just about reached their limits on turning the other cheek, and well they should. IF bigots only understand hate, then they are going to have there share...and they will still wonder "Why?"

Really? Where I'm from, it's just used as a general term of something bad. I don't think it's that derogative. It's not like they're directing it at anyone personally or hating gay people.
"Dude, that shirts gay!" Whatever, I don't think it has to do with bigotry, I think it started out that way.. but as it got more popular and around, it's just a term to me. "Your gay, I hate you!" or "You f*****" would be a total other story of course.

I was just discussing this with my two kids. (Yup! I am gay and have kids!)
We never determined WHY they use it, but I expressed that it is not a good thing to use that term to mean anything derogative.

I think its funny, but our kids use it all the time... (I'm in a lesbian relationship) Now I use it on the kids... They were a new shirt and I say "that's gay" I always get this funny look from them.... Or when they say it I say should I buy a that shirt then... Anyways its not as fun for them to use it....anymore...... It just a name calling harmless name that kids have picked up for everything... At least they are talking about it.......

I don't thinks kids have been brought up to hate gay people, it's seems that its innated in most of them! I worked with children from the ages of 4-12 from all kinds of backgrounds, and the little boys knew it was wrong and they didn't want to do any girlie things and the same for the girls!

Because their parent allow it. I won't tolerate it in my presence. I have corrected the children, in front of their parents and will do so again. If mommy and daddy don't like it, they can get the lecture as well. I am a large enough individual, when I get angry, they WILL listen.

kairi fanboy,
I think that they are supposed to grow up hating gay people and gay things that way. But I think that we are wiser than that here. I was brought up to despise gay men, and then I found myself acting out, so it turned into hatred for myself. I was sabotaged into hating myself by my family and by the people I was supposed to trust growing up.
Ain't that a *itch?

Because gays are the new ni--ers (sorry). You can't say that anymore, but it's expected that gays will be to timid or ashamed or something to make them stop. In other words, because they can.
