There are many ways to increase your energy. Some are preventitive, some work over time, and some you can start feeling right now.
------------
Oxygen
One major problem with lack of energy is lack of oxygen. The more you excercise, the greater the amount of oxygen your body can hold and process (the larger your lungs, the more oxygen they can hold).
------------
Food
Another problem is lack of the right type of food. Simple carbohydrates are kinds that break down quickly and provide short energy. One type of short-term energy source is sugar; eating a candy bar may give you an energy high, but it always results in a crash afterward. If you do use this type of energy for some reason, make sure you use it over a period of time and with some sort of other complex carbohydrate.
Complex carbohydrates are what your mother may have called "proteins." "Eat more protein!" This is the type of energy that will activate less quickly but sustain you longer. This is the type you should seek.
------------
Sleep
Lack of sleep (or even too much sleep) can contribute to a feeling of lack of energy throughout the day. The reccomended amount of sleep for an average human is from 7-8 hours (sequentially) a day. However! Some people *do* need more sleep and some people don't need as much, so make sure you work with what feels best for you.
Also, make sure that your sleep cycle stays as constant as possible. If you go to sleep at 3 am one night and 9 pm the next and 12 am the next, your body won't be able to adjust as well. Continuity and consistency are important.
------------
Stress and other factors
Oftentimes stress and worry can expend energy you didn't realize you have. If you have an unresolved conflict in your life, your body would thank you if you tried to work it out. If it's something as debilitating as to cause you to lose sleep or cause body tremors or anything like that, you should seek medical aid.
------------
Hope it helps!

Eat 3 regular (not large) sized meals and eat an in between meal snack. If all of these are made to be balanced between protein, low glycemic carbohydrates and fat, then your body will have enough "fuel" to make it through the day.

Eat a nutritious and varied diet, get plenty of rest, and avoid caffiene. Caffiene will cause an instant rush and feeling of being awake since it is a stimulant; however, afterwards one will feel a bigger crash because the body is not fully rested.
