This should be really easy to find on the web, but just to get you going, here's a couple of things about him.
His father was a very good musician who did some experiments on how the strings on a lute (an instrument like a guitar) can be tightened up or loosened, or made shorter or longer to tune them up, Some people think that's how Galileo got started thinking about experiments, by watching his father. When he was older he was really famous for being able to think up some very clever experiments that taught us a lot about how gravity works.

When he was a teenager his family sent him to the university, they probably wanted him to be a Doctor, but when he got to college he really liked math and science, so instead of being a doctor, he became a professor.

Years later he got in big trouble with the Church. In those days most people thought that the Sun went around the Earth, but Galileo saw some books that said that it was the other way around, the Earth goes around the sun. He decided those books were correct and he started teaching and writing about it. After a while he wrote a book that discussed this topic. When some people saw the book they thought that it insulted the Pope (who was actually an old friend of Galileo). The Pope got mad and allowed some other guys in the church to arrest Galileo. He got punished rather badly and had to swear in public that he believed that the Sun went around the earth. He didnt really beleive it but he gave in because he was old and had been threatened with torture. After about 100 years the church apologized and said they had made a mistake.

There is a terrific TV program that shows all this stuff. You can probably get it at your library if you live in a city with a good library.

Go to a library, find book on Galileo ,check it out, and read it.
His life is too interesting to get away with simply memorizing some facts like where he is from or what his family did.
