Presumably you mean a mobile/cell phone number. If so, the only way to find out who it is is to dial the number and see who answers.

If it's a regular landline number, you may be able to do a reverse white pages look up if you are in Canada, the United States or (I believe) Australia. This will only work if the number is not ex-directory. In the UK, you can't do a reverse lookup.

If it is locally then you can look in the phone book if your book is like mine. We have reverse numbers in the back of the book. You look up the phone number and it gives you the name and address. Otherwise all I can say is call them and ask. If it is a collection agency then don't tell them who you are but simply ask them what company you called. They have to tell you.

you call 411 and give them the number... you can find out an address and maybe name. But if it's a cell phone number you probably won't be able to find out who it is, they can still tell you what location the area code is from tho.

call it.....or go to google.com and search the number (with the area code) the name of the person should come up unless it's a cell phone number

Call it and say you are updating #'s. Ask who this # belongs too and if it is some one you know keep it. (Did you come across a # and you are trying to find out who it belongs to?) or try Switchboard.com it has reverse # look up.

Once in a while I use whitepages.com and do a reverse lookup. Fairly successful so far.
