Oh, don't gimme that crap about taxes. It's all about terrible tax allocation. Like the US gov't pays out less than 1% of its budget to foreign aid--a ridiculously low amount. But because the US is big and has a big budget, it sounds like, wow, the US is spending X millions of dollars on aid to this country! Whoopee!

The US is filled with lobbyists, special interest groups, crooked politicians, honest politicians who can't get jack sh!t done, and people grumbling about taxes because taxes don't go to the right places. Now, the US pays way less taxes by percentage than, say, every European country, but citizens often b!tch and moan about that percentage because it's spent on all the wrong stuff. If gov't was smarter, things would be better, and brains don't cost a cent. But if you don't have the brains in power, there's no amount of money that will make up for it. So hire brighter politicians, kick out all the evil special interest groups and lobbyists, get citizens more involved in politics, and allocate tax funds to the right places.

Easy, right?

I'm French, so I have no idea! But I think you need to take into account the cost of living and tax.

I was told how much a teacher made in America at the beginning. well, it was more than in France. But then, we have national insurance, and a lot of other stuff. So, actually, it's about the same, I think. It's diffficult to make comparisons between countries until you know all the facts.

It's called taxation...school districts in the US have to pass bond levies to supplement the money given them by the states and the voters will only pass so much. Canada on the other hand, taxes their citizens till He11 won't have it so they can pay their teachers more...doesn't bother them too much cause they know they're going to get most of it back in all the taxes Canadians have to pay on every dang thing (I hear the Canadian Govt. is trying to figure a way to tax breathing!!!)

Actually Canadian teachers' salaries vary by province and starting salaries depend on their education level, but some teachers start at just over $30K (Canadian, less than 30 USD) and none start at more than $50K.

Considering the fact that these teachers have to live in Canada...Well, they deserve to be paid more.
