what would be the best for a cactus garden pea gravel or sand

Cactus plants actually prefer a rich soil if it is free-draining. Packaged, commercial cactus potting soils (your local garden center should carry these)may be used or you can make your own by combining equal volumes of peat-based potting soil and very coarse sand or grit.

All cactus gardens I've seen have some kind of rock. But. sand
sounds like a good idea. Can't think of any reason why it
wouldn't work.

I work for a garden center and YUP, what Tee we said about buying premixed is correct. It is what we use also!
