It will take a long time to get that human interaction again...perhaps up to 6 months, but it can get it back.
As for feeding...small to medium rats...3-4 at a time....every 3-4 weeks. You must keep continuous water for him, as they dehydrate fast!
As for the human contact...you may have to restrain his head for awhile until you feel comfortable that he will not strike you. if you have any more questions, email me and I can help. I have 3 snakes of my own.

It seems to be ball python question day.

Fortunately you seem to be getting some decent answers instead of the usual trolls that say to cut the snake's head off.

I've given you a link to the ball python discussion forum at kingsnake.com. There are 880 messages in 155 threads there right now. And they're ALL about ball pythons!

Enjoy your new pet.

And as to not being handled for a long time, yes, it should get used to being handled again. Remember, he has a brain the size of a walnut (I'm trying to be generous here). He won't remember a lot about what happened, or didn't, before.

Balls???

No... They generally eat mice. Mice should be killed first to prevent them from hurting the snake. Pet store will tell you how. Some snakes just won't eat dead food, however. A few mice or a couple small rats every 10 - 14 days should be sufficient. The snake should adjust to being handled again. Pythons are not usually aggressive.

Buy a book that explains ball pythons, seriously. If you have this many questions about how to care for it, I recommend Barron's book of pythons. It costs about 10 bucks in a pet store or amazon. You shouldn't have got it if you know nothing about them. Sorry, don't mean to be a jerk about it, but it is a very good companion for a beginner herper like yourself. Yahoo q and a is not a good source for raising reptiles. Granted we do know what we are talking about here but a book will cover any questions you may have from caging to breeding. Here is a link to amazon that has books about ball pythons.

I have 2 adult ball pythons about 3 1/2 to 4 ft and I feed them every 7 to 10 days, and remember feed them a rat or mouse the size of the thickest part of their body .Mine, I feed them medium size rats. And yes ,you can get them used to being held again, just pick it up every day ,twice or 3 times a day .my female every time I go to pick her up, she acts like she will bite me ,but she doesn't,I think she is hungry all the time.

At 4 feet she could easily eat medium sized rats, or larger. She will get used to being handled again if you are not shy about handling her.
