I just put a new a new drum and axle nut on it and it is still happening. According to the repair manual, it is not missing any parts. I tighten the axle nut as much as possible. The splines on the previous drum were worn, therefore it was loose on the spindle and wobbled. I figured a new drum would fix it. I put it on and it was a perfect fit with no play, then tightened down the axle nut as tight as possible. I drove maybe 25 miles and the drum is lose again. Whats the deal?

Some of the other answers are right in a way. Are the bearings the kind that come out with the drum..." pressed bearings" Or are they roller or needle bearings" the kind where you put a bearing and a seal on the back side of the drum to hold the bearing in put the drum on and put the other bearing in,A washer and a nut?
If it's the pressed in kind there is a crush sleeve that you need to replace "a special washer". Then you need to use a torque wrench to tighten the nut to factory specs. It's a pretty high torque rating that I doubt you could do with a normal ratchet or wrench. The other possibility is the spindle that the bearings rides on is worn from the drum being loose. The spindle may have to be replaced if this is the case

during the time that you replace the drum and it was a tight fit did you replace the outer lock washers with it and the don't drive forward you must drive in reverse and pump the brakes this will cause it to recalabrate themselves exspecially on a 4wd . (Lock washers are what go around the studs for the wheel after the main hub is on

changing the drum will not change the problem check the nut that you are tightening on the hug and spindle and check the torque that the manufacturer specification require and torque it to those requirments,if this fails you may have a spindle that is weak on the treads and may need to be changed, good luck, delmy d

It is a factory screw up, they all had the same problem. Suberu should have a new model drum out by now that will work.
