My conviction was 8 years ago. I plead guilty to a second degree assault charge. I was was not guilty of the original charge, but my public defender was not much help to me. The charge has ruined my life, and despite the fact that I was told I can't overturn the verdict I feel that it can be done. I am not the criminal that they have made me out to be. I would also like to know if I could get my rights to vote and \or bear arms for no other reason than to have all my rights back

Disregard any other comments. I AM a convicted felon. I have a passport. The passport simply verifies who you are. They don't check criminal records. They merely verify that you are the person you are representing. I obtained a passport on my 4th year of probation. Yes, you CAN get one.

In most cases, you cannot get a passport. In some states you may vote, but you cannot legally own a firearm. Your spouse can, but not you. You may be able to have the charge expunged by the courts, you will need an attorney for this.. It would still be there, but unavailable to all records unless another crime was committed.
