First ... stay in Eugene ... not Springfield, if at all possible. (They are seperated by the Interstate Freeway (I-5).

The following areas are excellent if you can afford them:

The area between delta highway and Coburg Road, from Oakway north, includes Cal Young Road, Oakway, the area around Walmart and Costco, etc.

The South HIlls are also excellent, but again, may not be within your finances, depends.

Some good places that are not as expensive are the Ferry Street Bridge area, and River Road NORTH of beltline Rd.

Generally speaking, avoid westmoreland, river road south of beltline road, and most of springfield.

The areas west of beltline, what is called the Bethel area, is so-so. Some are better than others.

I would contact a realtor, and tell them what your needs are, as far as schools, public transportation, community, etc, and they will give you good information.

Also, you might want to check out smaller towns in the area such as Junction CIty, Pleasant Hill, and Veneta.

Here are some general links about Eugene. I think its a great place to live, and a great place to raise a family.

Also, just FYI, there are a lot of apartment complex's just east of the Gateway Shopping Mall, while they are in springfield, it's not a bad area, you might want to rent for a few months while you look for a home, so you can get your own feel for the area, and where suits YOU best ... these complex's are good, some of my kids have lived in a couple of them.

Ah....I lived there for 25 years and my living house of checklist continues to be in Eugene. It sounds opt to me which you particularly opt to stay in South Eugene. the section basically south of the campus is powerful (U of O) and you will stick to amazon freeway to the south and discover many places to stay there, on or basically off Amazon freeway Rd. There are numerous trekking trails interior that place, a butte, an previous cemetary with distinctive masonic impact. there is likewise a theater (stay), a park (the place they do shakespeare interior the park), a public pool, interior sight severe college, close to to campus, Museum of organic history, paintings Museum, (the two on campus), a minimum of two paintings galleries, and a variety of of alternative good eating places, which includes Thai, Italian, and Indian delicacies. the section is laid low with community markets and convenience shops alongside the main strip. (Amazon freeway) There are super groceries shops interior a 5 minute force at 18th and at thirtieth besides because of the fact the asian food market, and organic ingredients save interior ten minutes over on Willamette. there is likewise banking on Willamette, bowling, a sushi eating place (however the extra effective ones are downtown), and the community baseball stadium. The community bus gadget, this is rather good albeit slightly costly can take you everywhere you ought to bypass. There are numerous pickup places interior that section, and a minimum of three distinctive bus routes vacationing for the time of the section. there's a 2nd butte and yet another super park with trekking trails in case you return and forth slightly north and east, interior the community without postpone south and without postpone east of campus. this is approximately 20 minutes to stroll from the middle of the Amazon freeway section. you additionally can bypass to the North element of the campus and there are trekking trails alongside the two the north and south aspects of the Willimatte river. this is an prolonged stroll from the section nonetheless. the fee of the section hasn't escaped the community Oregonians there and it has substitute right into a expensive place to stay. on an identical time because it has no longer been stepped forward into an area of overblown $400k residences, the residences that are there are expensive. there is particularly little new housing progression and so this is totally almost a foregone end you would be procuring an already present day living house, or renting. there is distinctive apartment residences available in that section. wish that helps.
