Every year some new anime show is imported from Japan and poorly translated for the North American audiance. It runs for a while, and has merchandise out the @$$, then disappears with nary a trace. I've seen several episodes of the more popular ones recently (Full Metal Alchemist, Inu Yasha, and Naruto to name a few) and they are all lousy. The stories are poor, the voice acting is awful, and the animation isn't really on par with much of the earlier anime shows that have been released here. Is the audiance for these things getting younger? Is that why they can be so poorly translated now? What is it about these shows tht attracts droves of people for a year or so until they eventually get flogged to the point that no one is interested anymore? Anyone else remember Yu Gi Oh?

I speak 3 lenguages and I would say don't judge anything unless you've seen it in its original lenguage. Naruto's actually a really good anime, the story line is original and the characters are great. I find Naruto's voice in the dub annoying and yes english dubs suck but there's a couple anime in which the dub is actually good, Cowboy Bebop and Eureka seven for example (though I hate Renton's voice >.>). I never got into Inuyasha for some reason but FMA is good, you should watch it in Japanese though if you want to enjoy it.

As for why people stop watching them I would say its because #1 they start watching the anime subbed and #2 because they tend to cut the anime up and do a bunch of re-runs which gets annoying and on anime that are 50eps+ it gets hard to follow when they only show it once a week.

The reason they import any anime in the first place is because it's/was popular in Japan but depending on the company that license the anime you can expect bad dubbing and some times even censorship like in the case of One Piece which is another great anime IF watched subbed. Though I understand that its hard to do a good dub translation when trying to match them up to the character's mouth movements.

(btw I agree, Yu-gi-oh sucks in any lenguage LOL)

I seriously don't know, but I'll admit that I really HATE those shows. The only " popular" show I like is Bleach, and I don't really keep up with it that much. Those three shows has so many fans, I don't even bother watching them because people drag on and on about them. It's like if that show wasn't there they wouldn't in this world or something. Mostly people in the US (yeah, ok I'm from the US too but...) everyone who likes anime and doesn't watch the subs like it for the dubs and think they know everything about it and drag on and on about it. It's so annoying. I would like to know why it's so popular too.

I have been into anime for 10+ years now. I did not know until Pokemon came out that it came in English dubbed versions. The circles I watch anime with we watch it in the original Japanese version. Plus the stories are so fast paced even with my A.D.D. I have watched the first 200 episodes of Naruto twice.

poor American, they only import few good anime, and most of them are for children, and few for teen,, less for adult

from that few few thing to look, they repeat it again and again and again..... in weekly basis, now you see something long long serial to see, wasn't it relieving?
