My Trane split system heat pump is 18/19 years old. starting to do to many repairs on it..would like to replace it this winter..would like to shop around to compare quality and cost so that when I do get vendors to give me quotes I will a least have an idea what I'm talking about..I am not having much luck finding a place on the web. It seems that nobody wants to tell you what the real prices are.

Everyone is correct, you do have to be a licensed contractor to purchase their equipment and for most manufacturers, you have to be a dealer too. A price for a split system (3 ton 13 seer with 80% afue on the Furnace) installed would cost you around $3,000-4,000. The equipment would cost the installer around $1,000-2,000 to supply. Hope I was helpful!! =)

You will only be able to compare prices through a licensed contractor, fair to say you will probably pay a healthy mark up. You will most likely have to buy a 13 SEER since the new law went into effect, but some dealers are still selling lower SEER units if they have them.

No qualified contractor is going to give you a firm price without looking at the job. trane has a web site, most of the manufactuers do.But you can't buy anything without a license

I would recommend this site http://www.nationalairwarehouse.com/wholesale-heat-pumps.html and have heard good things about it. This may help you to get answer of your question. Their site is centered around providing low priced or wholesale pricing on AC and heating (HVAC) equipment.
