You may just have to involve the police. I would make a list of all the equipment, brand and model # and serial number if you have it. And you may need add'l proof of ownership - but I would think model, etc would be proof enough.

It is against the law to withhold pay unless you have documentation from the employee that it is okay. You have a couple options, you can sign a complaint of theft with the police department. You can sue for the cost to replace the equipment or you can break bones until the equipment is returned. The third would be the most satisfying, but the first would be the route I took unless one and two didn't work.

uh... hire a lawyer. There's no shortage of them, there's probably one that specializes in "disgruntled employees that quit today but has refused to return your company equipment."

start treating your other employees like human being rather than cattle,,i got accused of stealing keys given to me as part of my job, after 8 years plus they steadily assigned me worse jobs and harrassed me i believe in an attempt to make me quit , when i didnt they had to let go so i told them i would return everything the following tuesday keys uniforms ppe ,, while waiting for my ride the cops showed up saying i couldnt leave with company equiptment ,i had to wait for my ride to go to my house and bring me a change of clothes so i could leave i wasnt allowed to leave wearing the uniform , they were told to bring the rest of my uniforms from my house,, ,this is no way to treat an employee who worked faithfully and dependably for 8 yrs...

i agree with most answers, but it is illegal to withhold pay, unless he signed something when he was hired on saying that he would return equip. or not get paid. if he ever quit.

call the police. you can also sue them for the value. I would also withhold any pay till they return the property.

Contact the police. And sue him if you can't still get it back. You cannot withhold pay.

Where I work, we are not allowed to get our last paycheck until we return our stuff. Then again, that's at Schlotzsky's Deli. Maybe that could work?
