What are some good names? I'm expecting twin girls in January, and would appreciate it if anyone could think of some good ones. Thanks.

Ok, first congratulations! I have three boys. Never managed to have the girl. I have taught for 15 years and have had many sets of twins. Here are some problems I have seen. Names that rhyme may seem cute, but it makes it difficult for the twins to distinguish one from the other if you call them. Names like Hope and Faith, Lily and Rose, are beautiful, but think about how people will comment on them and it may become annoying. (I have a large, 200 pound dog. If one more person says, "Where is the saddle?" or "Are you walking him or is he walking you?" I will scream!) People will try to be funny and clever, and it will drive them crazy. Do you have family names? Grandmothers or aunts that you are close to? Childhood friends? If I ever had a girl, it would have been Julia Rose or Julia Grace, after my grandmothers Julia, and Grace, and Rose being my great-grandmother's favorite flower. I felt like naming my guys was harder than actually giving birth do them!

Congratulations!

Well, how popular of a name do you want to go?
According to the Social Security Administration these are the 106 most popular names for twins in 2005 (some of the girls ones are):
4 Faith, Hope
11 Hailey, Hannah
12 Madison, Morgan
16 Mackenzie, Madison
28 Ella, Emma
31 Hannah, Sarah
34 Faith, Grace
40 Emily, Sarah
45 Olivia, Sophia
46 Ashley, Emily
47 Elizabeth, Emily
48 Elizabeth, Katherine
58 Abigail, Allison
59 Amy, Emily
64 Gabriella, Isabella
65 Isabella, Sophia
67 Megan, Morgan
74 Ava, Olivia
85 Abigail, Emily
86 Anna, Emma
95 Haley, Hannah

Personally I would try to avoid a really popular set of names.

How about:
Daphne and Laura - Both names mean "laurel", but Daphne is Greek and Laura is Latin
Erica and Heather - Erica means "heather" in Latin.
Melanie and Phoebe - both names are Greek, but Melanie means "dark" and Phoebe means "light".

Random names that I personally like:
Samantha and Annabeth

Or just pick 2 names that you like. They don't have to rhyme or anything. I'm sure your little girls will thank you for that in the end.

Don't do Hope and Faith, they are very pretty names but way too many twin girls have these names. Go on a baby names web-site, look at the list of top ten names, and then DON'T pick any of them. You don't want them to have the same name as every third baby born this year.

Names I like:
Ashlyn and Alyssa
Melanie and Melody

I personally think that twins should be treated as individuals - starting with their names... The whole rhyming names thing is cute for when they are like 2 years old but they won't like the fact that their names rhyme by the time that they are 18... believe me... And enjoy the girls - they grow up so fast... I have twins girl cousins and they just turned 7, it feels like yesterday when I held them for the first time (I was only 11)... Congratulations !
