She was formally adopted by Lionel Richie & his wife at the time, Brenda Richie, when she was 9 years old. But she was informally adopted by them and lived with them at a younger age. Her real father was a percussionist in Lionel Richie's band, The Commodores.

no he isnt nicoles real dad was a member of lionels group and couldnt take care of her so lionel and his wife feel in love with her and adopted her informally at first at age 3 and they legally at 4yrs old
