Well Barrister wannabe, let us assume you have bought your LLB and got a Ist.
Then you try to get onto the Bar Vocational Course (BVC).
I guarantee they WILL check because the competition is so high for places.
But let us say you bought yourself an Engineering degree and were granted an interview for a job as an engineer.
Then they ask you what you would do in certain situations and you would not have a clue what was being said to you. Therefore you could not answer.
My partner is a very highly qualified engineer with many years experience and he would spot the problem straight away.
It simply is not worth it.

No! I'm now in full time education and although it would be a lot cheaper to go to Thailand and buy a degree, I just couldn't.
I want to work and know that the end result is something I have worked hard for and not bought!

You can already buy a title - Lords of the Manor come up for sale every so often. Of course, you could always give a large donation to the Labour Party for whatever they think is flavour of the moment!
IIt is illegal to buy a degree, claim it is yours and use it as a qualification (if you found out your Doctor had bought his degree, would you want him treating you?!!!).
However, if you want to give your parents a fake degree in perfect parenting for letters to add after their names, I am sure nobody would complain!
But to buy one for letters after your name fraudulently is illegal! - just see what happened to the man who got a CBE under false pretences (it may have been an MBE) - he got sent to jail!

no because it is a detriment to universities everywhere, not to mention to students who want to graduate the honest and hard working way and to higher education and secondly it is even more of an insult to have a degree that you haven't done any work for. companies who encourage this type of action this way are not only a disgrace to themselves but as i mentioned before they are doing a disservice to university lecturers also. i'd say they should be thoroughly investigated and closed down.

Yes - done it! I have a degree in Metaphysics, and I am an ordained minister of the universal life church!
It was a joke - I also have a perfectly legitimate BSc and PGCE, and I'm working on my Masters, but when I read about that awful 'You are what you eat' woman, I thought I'd get in on the act!

No. Why would you wanna live a lie. It takes time , effort and dedication to honestly earn a degree.
Title, if you feel like getting yourself a title as a reward for your life of hard work, i think it stands as a sense of achievement.
so in summary
degree - no
lordship , title - why not!!
