I know this is really easy, but I have always had a problem with the breakdown of our English language. I can speak it...just don't ask me to pick it apart.

This is a grammar exercise on action and condition verbs.
Okay...so the instructions say to identify the VERB in the sentence. Here is the sentence:

Now he is an experienced skier.

Also, if you could provide a brief explanation that I could give him, that would be great!

I would say"is" is a verb showing condition. Experience is being used as an adjective, skier is a noun.

Verbs of being or condition include is,are, was, were etc. These are a simple link... this IS that.

Most verbs are verbs of action, or doing words : jump, cry, sing, read etc.

The verb is "is", a form of "to be", a state of being verb, not an action verb or a condition verb. Just did a search on action and condition verbs. A state of being verb also is a condition verb. The candy tastes good. Tastes is a condition verb. An action verb is something that the subject of the sentence did. The subject of your sentence is "he" - if it said he skies, then the verb is an action verb.

A condition verb tells about the subject, and actions verb is what the subject does.

The verb: is verb of being

the condition verb: experienced, because it is being used as an adjective to describe the condition of the skier

is experienced would be an active verb in present perfect

A verb is a 'doing, describing' or 'action' word that links to a noun (a naming word) either directly to the left or the right...
In this case the verb in this sentence is 'Is experienced'....skier is the noun.......

Hmmmm wouldn't only the word 'ski'ing' be a verb...(in ref to another answer)
