Call Taxi is user friendly and safe too. Never reach a Cab driver or a Autorickshaw guy directly in Chennai untill otherwise you are fluent in Tamil and you know the city. Always prefer for Call Taxi or from a Pre Paid system, else take Town Bus, again Pick-Pockets are there! If you are confused ask your hotel guy to book a cab for you.

There is a authorised taxi/auto service booth at Chennai Central Station. Once you arrive there, just be patient, since porters, touts & drivers may force you to use their services. If you have more luggage than to carry, fix your rate with a porter, before you avail his service.Chennai Central Station porters are notorius for their exorbitant porterage charges.

The autorickshaws generally may charge you Rs.100/- maximum. If you take a call taxi they may charge around Rs.150/- maximum(as per the meter) Tell the driver to take you to Karmaraj Domestic Airport. Its easy and will take you straightway there. Good Luck.

The most economic way is to travel by train. walk down to the nearby park station and board a electric train and get down at tirusulam station and again walk down to the airport. this won't cost you more than Rs.10/-.
