because they are attracted to rubber, and although if you smell the hoses, you will only smell the rubber, they can smell the water waste buildup underneath, and they like that type of stuff.
good luck, but if you have a rat, you should also get rat poison along with a rat trap.

Two reasons possibly. 1. the rat likes eating rubber hoses and 2, the rat doesn't like the sight of the rubber hose below the machine. You may have to replace it with another kind of material.

Rats are rodents and rodents have teeth that are always growing so they will chew on things to grind them down otherwise their teeth will grow too large.

It could. They have very strong and razor sharp teeth, enough to eventually eat through an aluminium can just to get into it.
