My friend said she would take me out for a meal we planned it weeks ago. Then at the last minute she phones saying her car has broken down and she needs to take it to her brothers to fix it And I had been going through a rough patch which she was aware of . I was so upset because I was so looking forward to going. But she phoned back again saying she would arrange something for this week. Shall I say I am busy or shall I just go. what do you think guys.

I think you should go, if her car is broken down how can she take you out to dinner? Give your friend a break and know that she can have rough times too.

Good Luck!

Honey how old are you? Unless there is something you are saying in your explanation, you are over reacting. Anyone can have car trouble at any time. Things like this reminds me of death; death always comes at an inconvenient time for someone. Go with your friend to dinner and be thankful that you have a friend that cares enough about you to celebrate the day you were born.

She is obviously thinking about you because if not she wouldnt have wanted to rearrange it for the following week.

Cars break down all the time, it could have just been a coinsidence that this happened at the same time that you were going to go out.

Make sure you go and have a really good time, things happen and it cant be helped.

Happy Birthday

unless you can prove that her car didnt break down I think you should go with her - sometimes things happen - like cars breaking down - that are beyond our control, and she was probably just as annoyed and upset as you were, but it was her priority to get the car fixed.
If you are REALLY annoyed over it why not speak to her about it and let her know how upset you were and let her give her reasons for cancelling it.
At the end of the day - is the friendship worth putting on the line over one night??

Yes, I think you should give her the benefit of the doubt. If her care REALLY broke down there wasn't much she could have done. These things happen. What if YOU had been the one who said, oh gee, I have a cold and I can't go. Wouldn't you have expected HER to understand and not be mad and act immature.

If you say you are busy you will be lieing.
If her car really broke down and she had to take it to be fixed what are you complaining about? She had to.
What kind of friend does that make you that you would lie to her just to get revenge for the poor girls car breaking down?
if i was the girl and knew this i sure wouldn't be your friend anymore! : (

ye know what, my birthaday was 14 days ago. it was my 20th and i felt it should be special with my friends, but nothing of that sort happened. I celebrated it at my friend's house in which the same day her mother was giving her a farewell party as she was going to leave the country. thats to say it wasn't my day, then i tried to arrange it with my friends for the next week but instead we partied at one of my friend's who has recently got engaged. not mine again, and now one of my friends called me and said we could arrange to go out for a meal with our friends next week to celebrate my (late) birthday,( i just wish it to be completly mine). how could i refuse it after all this. we are friends, we love we care about each other and above all we forgive one another.
go out with your friend and enjoy your birthday and never forget to dress up beautifully as you are the queen of that day. Just feel it inside. Happy birthday

Of course you should go....things happen! But if she cancels on you again, think again before accepting another dinner with her. Happy Birthday and try to cheer up and have a wonderful year. God Bless.

Nah just go i've been in situations like that and she probably feels just as bad. if shes a good friend then don't let it ruin it, what she said is more than likely true and as a friend back you should understand that too.

I'm sure she wasn't purposely trying to blow you off. If her car was really broken there isn't much she could do about it. At least she wants to reschedule. If my friend was going to hold that against me I wouldn't be her friend anymore. It's pretty immature and selfish to blow her off because you think she blew you off. Try to be a bit more understanding.
