I'm 16 and during the second year I've been having periods I started wakeing up the first morning of my period in extreme pain. Like everything from below my ribs to the bottom of my butt does like major spaz cramps for hours, I get neaseus, and i can't keep anything down. I have lots of back pain starting a few days before and the cramps arn't just little give-me-a-few-minutes-I'll -be-fine-kind they like those times seven. My mom had Endometriosis and I've heard that its a good chance I do too. Does anyone think I should ask my mom about birth control pills or if they might help? This isn't about the whole sex thing I just want so relief. Thanks.

Oral contraceptives can definately confer temporary symptom relief from Endo, particularly in the younger patient. However, having said that, it is best to be diagnosed and try to obtain effective surgical removal of the disease before subjecting yourself to any hormonal therapy. If your mom has/had it and you have symptoms, it is likely you do as well, but best to be certain before trying any treatments. There is no cure for Endometriosis, but there are things you can to do help, ranging from surgical intervention to alternative therapies to diet to hormonal treatments. Of all the options, excision surgery by an Endo expert is the best bet. For more detail on excision, please see www.centerforendo.com and www.endometriosistreatment.org. Also - talk to others who truly understand and can help guide you through the process by checking out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/erc and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ercgirltalk - there are wonderful educational kits on both sites available, all for free - suggest downloading them and reviewing them with your family and docs. You are definately not alone and there is much authoritative info and support to be had at those sites. Good luck.

I am so sorry for all the pain that you are enduring at such a young age. I definitely feel that you should talk to your mother about some type of relief:however, I'm not sure if birth control is the answer to the problem. It seems that different forms of birth control have more negative side effects than positive ones. Some cause weight gain, some are linked to Ovarian Cancer, and some totally toss out the menstrual cycle which causes severe mood swings. If possible see if there are some herbs from a Natural Remedies store or something that won't be so toxic to the system. I know there is a gap in the ages of you and your mother, but ask her what she did to cope with the situation. When you go to the Gynie make sure that person truly understands what your body has had to endure. If you are not comfortable or satisfied with the first one please go elsewhere. I do hope you get relief from your ailment very soon.

Well even though you should talk to your mom, you are 16. That means you can talk to a doctor first and just tell your mom your going in for an exam. The doctor doesn't have to tell your mom anything. Thats first. Secondly I've had endometriosis, and I can tell you that even though its 2006, the medical community still has no idea why or how it happens. (look it up, I'm not kidding). But yea, birthcontrol could regulate your period and if it made it lighter that could help. Also dont use tampons (they say it can back up the blood and that could be a reason it happens). Also you should know that the more pain your in the less of the endometriosis you have and vice versa. Also, endometriosis doesnt just hurt when your on your period. It hurts all the time. So make sure its not just your aunt flow. ps......especially when you do have sex. If you do.

I've never been diagnosed with endometriosis, but my periods were awful, heavy, painful, etc. and once I got on birth control when I was 18 the periods were a total reversal. They are very light, no cramping, and sometimes I don't have periods at all. Talk to your mom about the situation and have her take you to a doctor to see about getting some relief. There are other things they can put you on besides birth control.

Yes, going on birth control can alleviate these symptoms. If you do have endometriosis, I have been told that the depo provera injection is also a good treatment. Depo provera is a form of birth control you take via an injection every 12 weeks. I have been on it for years and I no longer have cramps or PMS.

I am under suspision of having endometriosis and am on birth control because of it. From my experience, it has helped me sooooooo much. My cramps aren't bad, my flow is lighter, and I KNOW when I will have my period so I know if I should take Advil. I went on the pill when I was 17. Just ask your mom about it, and if she is iffy, offer to let her come to the doctor with you so that she can hear from a trained medical doctor about how much it helps.

yes by all means talk to your mom i'm sure she would love knowing that you trust her enough to talk to her about these things and knowing that you are getting accurate information i hope when my daughter is old enough to have these questions that she will come to me. Birth control does help with lots period problems but if you do have endometriosis the dr may be able to do something else for you as well.

Birth control will not help for the pain..
I would still talk to her about it.
I had to get a loporpocy done. They laser out some scare tissue and found out that I indeed have edro. There is a shot that will help. But and yes I do say but it will put your body through menopause. And yes you will have it again once your in your age.

You really need to read "Endometriosis Bible & Violet Protocol" by Zoe Brown (also available in electronic format here: http://www.endometriosisbible.info ). It's about how to eradicate endometriosis disease forever. It worked for me, you will see results in only a matter of weeks. Good Luck!
