The answer is -3, because you have a positive 2, and a negative 5, and your adding, and when you are adding two different signs you subtract and take the sign of the largest. So your answer to 2+(-5)=-3

heres how you do it. the question asking what is 2 plus a negative five. automaticall i think SUBTRACTION!! why you ask? because when a negative is next to a positive like that you are going to subtract.
but when a negative is next to a negative you are going to add
my teacher taught me this method called chop chop:
if you have 2 negatives by each other, you cross a line vertical through them, because the 2 lines of a negative sign put together equal a positive. but when you have a positive and a negative you take away the positive and keep the negative.
i hope that helps, i am sorry if i made it kind of confusing for u!!

when u add 2 on to -5 it becomes -3 because anything under 0 (ie -1,-2etc) when you are adding u have 2 bring your number from -5 to 0

if you are adding a negative, just get rid of the "plus" sign. then you are left with 2 - 5, which will equal -3.
