Check with a dermatologist if it's bad. I didn't have much luck with over the counter stuff, either as a teen or now as an adult.

I tried every product and everything my dermatologist recomended. Nothing worked. One day I was looking for help in the net and I found the page www.acne.org there a guy who is NOT SELLING PRODUCTS or anything else who explain how he had a bad experience with acne products and how he found out the way to cure his problem. The cool thing about it this site is that there you will find info about the causes of acne, info from doctors and forums with comments of people that are going through the same experience.

Basically there is 3 things that you will have to use. And those products you can find in any store you decide and are very inexpensive (but with magnific results, I can tell):

1. Neutrogena On the Spot Acne Treatment
2. Purpose soap bar (in the website www.acne.org) are other alternatives for a soap and moisturizer)
3. A moisturizer (since the first couple of weeks your face will me dry)

All the info that help me is on that site, and Im sure that if you follow the intructions on this non comercial site it will help you too. I can tell cuz I tried and I BEEN WITHOUT acne 8 YEARS thanks to this treatment. Good luck to you, and hope my answer help you.

-Before you choose any random acne fighting products, check with a dermatologist to find out what active ingredients would work best for your skin (eg. retinol, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, etc.) Proactiv, Neutrogena, and other brand name stuff might work for some people, but they might not work for you, so do your homework.

-Get products containing the active ingredients your dermatologist recommended (that is, unless you have to get prescription stuff) and start a regimen that you follow regularly (acne is not going to go away overnight, if you want the products you're using to work, you have to stick to your regimen).

-Don't forget your sunscreen when going outside (important when you're treating acne, because these products usually make your skin more sensitive to UV rays).

-Avoid popping pimples.

-Wash your face regularly with a cleanser meant for skin with acne (make sure you do it every night before going to sleep).

-Drink lots of water

-Make sure you're getting a good night's sleep every night (which is somewhat related to the next tip).

-Find ways to deal with stress (if you're under stress, that is).

-Avoid wearing too much makeup.

One of my favorites is Green Alochol. I can usually only find it at Vons.

I am amazed at how much dirt comes off your face.
My teen uses it and never breaks out.
