Find yourself a nice dress that will allow you to move around comfortably and make you look great and in a color that you like. You are not in the wedding and do not have to match anyone else in the wedding.

Don't wear the same colors as the wedding party. It'll look like you're trying too hard. Ask your sister what she thinks is best since she is closely related to the event. Also, if you are there as a guest I would say dress in any cocktail dress you like. If you're there ONLY to watch the kids, and in more of a working type role, wear something very simple, like a suit, or pants suit in a neutral color. You don't want to be running after kids in sequins! :)

If you're going to be chasing around after three kids, I'd say wear a fancy pants outfit in a color that won't clash with the wedding colors! Low heels, too! It's hard to chase down kids in high heels!

If you are helping with the kids, buy something comfortable to wear. I would say, don't worry what her wedding colors are. Find something that you can chase kids around in and won't show dirt easily (or spilled punch). If it were me, I would look for a black or navy sleeveless dress with a matching shrug or jacket. Lenghtwise, I would look for something past the knee and for shoes, cute ballet flats or wedges. No stilettos.

A nice pant suit - you need to keep up with the kids (preferable something that can be washed - not Dry Clean Only!)

It sounds like you are going as more than the average wedding guest. Since you know that one of your roles is nanny to at least 3 children, you should dress in a child-friendly outfit. If you are wathing one child, eventually another will join, then another, and the next thing you know, everybody's children are playing together, and you are the watching them.

Pants are by far the easiest option here. Not only for modesty (bending over to their level in a short skirt isn't the best idea), but also for ease of movement when you have to chase after them, pick the smaller ones up, squatting down to talk to them, etc...
You can find a really nice separates just about anywhere, and at reasonable prices too. If you want, you could even get the styles that look like skirts, in different lengths from knee length to ankle. Try a style with a sheer overlay for a fun and flirty look.
Just some examples:

If you opt for a dress, then look for a longer skirt (below the knee or mid calf) but not as long as ankle, it will look too formal, and a loose skirt.

A skirt would work too in the same loose, flowing style.

As for the colors, you could use any that you wanted, except for white. If you find something in the bridal colors of aqua, peach, or silver, it should only be an accenting color, not a solid color of the dress. A top or a bottom in one of those colors would be OK. Etiquitte states that it is a complement to the bride to wear her colors at her wedding. So a black pants/skirt with a peach top wouldn't look like you are in the wedding, but that you are showing respect for the bride. A dress that has a print in one or more of those colors would be acceptable too. Go with the colors that look best on you, and think about what styles will hold up to the demands of the children.

Good Luck!

I would go with the pantsuit as suggested by others in a pastel color.
