so i have a 92 chevy corsica that i just bought. it had been sitting for a year or two when i bought it. it runs well other than the fact that if i drive for over 10 minutes, it will cut off on me both while driving and coming to a stop. i've done an oil change on it already and purchased spark plugs for a guy to install for me. is there anything else it could be?

i was told it could also be the fuel pump...can anyone tell me what else it could be and the approx cost? and its a v6 engine.

check the alternator also. Check your cables. It could be that your idle is set too low. For the alternator it should be about 25-75 dollars if it is at a salvage yard.

If you have to jump the car to start it every time after it shuts off then it's your alternator/bad battery. if you don't have to jump it then it doesn't have to do with the alternator/battery.

do a full tune up, wich includes spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor button, and pcv valve, fuel filter (that is an important one, it's usually neglected until it gives problems) and make sure its installed properly. i doubt the actuall fuel pump has a problem with it. and none of the above items should be too expensive, with the most expensive being the wires.

if the problem still persists, then i could be a number of problems causing it, like the distributor itself, bad vacuum lines, any number of sensors.

if there are any other symptoms, like studdering, bad idle, any warning lights on, or loss of power then they would help alot in helping to identify the problem.

The late 80s and early 90s GM cars were notorious for this. The easy fix is a bad battery, cable or alternator. It could also be in the engine wiring harness, the engine control computer, the ignition sensors or coil. Also check for blown ECM fuses, or loose battery cables & ground straps in engine bay.

ok,change the plug wires and also something some people dont do is clean out the throttle body,it could be carboned up and cant breathe.get some gumout and unhook the nose that goes to the throttle body and spray some cleaner up in it and take a clean rag and wipe out the carbon.hope this does some good.

it could be just about any thing when you change plugs change the wires to and check the distributor and if it has points change them and also check the timing if that dont fix the problem then you will have to put your car in the shop

My money would be to replace the fuel filter and put some fresh gas in the tank.
