You should have stayed awake in math class!!! I think you meant to find the volume of wood chips you would need to fit your 33 ft x 70 ft x 4 in pit. You have a volume that you need to fill so that will be measured in cubic feet, yards or inches. If you were just measuring an area, then it is square yards, feet or inches.

Anyway here's the answer:

12 inches = 1 foot
3 feet = 1 yard

4 in = 0.333 feet = 0.111 yard
33 ft = 11 yards
70 ft = 23.333 yards

L x W x D = 23.333 yards x 11 yards x 0.111 yard = 28.52 cubic yards.

You'll need to buy about 29 cubic yards of wood chips to make sure you have enough to cover. You won't dig exactly 4" all around.

1 cubic yard = 3' x 3' x 3' = 27 cubic feet
Volume in length x width x height = 33' x 70' x 0.25'
You can do the rest

Swoosh answered before i could, but i have a suggestion to use that material made from cut up tires instead of wood chips. wood chips can hurt and bring bugs, that stuff they make from tires is verrrry cushy and great for a play area and lasts you a long time. great to help with recycling too. Just a thought.

33 x 70 x .333(4inches is 1/3 of a foot)=769 cubic feet.
769/9 (1 cubic yard=9 cubic feet)=85.547 cubic yards
Hope that helps

33 x 77 = 2541 sq ft.

2541 divided by 81 = 31.37

Go with the tire scraps. Wood becomes a soggy mess.
