My grand-mother left a will, and the bank manager was the executer, he said he had given it to my mother. I presume my mother would have had to take it to a court. but where would it have gone from there, and where would i find it.

When the person who made the will dies, the will is reviewed by the probate court, according to the appropriate state/country laws.

If the will is found to be valid (passes probate), the executor is instructed by the court to disburse the property according to the terms of the will, and again according to the appropriate state/country laws.

{EDIT as requested}

Once the will has gone through probate, it is available through the court in the appropriate county/state.

Prior to that, I know that in the US there is not a central repository for wills before they went through probate, because the will can be changed at any time, and is usually held either by the person who made it, their attorney or the intended executor. I don't know the specific UK laws, but my guess is the same would apply.

Coragryph is correct. The only thing I would add is this: Yes, you can get a copy of the Will. After it has been filed with the court it is public record. Go to the county clerk's office of the county in which it was filed. You will probably have to pay a fee but you can easily get a copy. Also, if you contest anything in the Will go to an attorney immediately. If you wait until the Will is probated then the burden of proof is on you (at least in Texas).

She might have taken it for Probate. You would have to find out which is your nearest Probate Majistrates Court and then ask them or phone up the Probate Office and see if they can help.

That happened to a friend of mine and by the time it was all found and sorted, his mum had spent all the money. Fact is it was never recovered. So good luck on your quest.
