Some things just can't be explained.

Why is David Hasselhoff a popular singer in Europe and he's a joke in America?

See what I mean!

The concert business in the States is geared toward larger, more successful bands - because the venues have to provide security and insurance, and that cost naturally gets passed along to the concertgoer (read: consumer). Nobody expects to sell 20,000 seats for a show by a band that's not doing platinum sales and hasn't for 30 years, so they don't bother with booking them. They CAN sell 20,000 seats to the flavor of the year, so they will. They CAN sell 10,000 seats for Fleetwood Mac at $80.00 each (thus making up the expenses), so they will. The Amphitheatre at the Zoo or the State Fair already has insurance, so that's where artists past their commercial prime tend to end up.
PS - I've always considered it a show of class that when Queen stopped selling in the States, they stopped touring in the States (even though I would've loved to see 'em again!)
