You want to get a by itself. Right now it's being devided by 2.3.

The opposite of dividing is multiplying, and whatever you do to one side, you do to the other.

(a/2.3)*2.3 = -115*2.3 then simplify

a = (-115*2.3) and a negative times a positive is still a negative

so
a=264.5

a= -264.5

1)Multiply each side by 2.3, thereby removing the demominator and leaving the variable a on one side
a= -115(2.3)

2) A negative multiplied by a positive = a negative
a= -264.5

(a/ 2.3) = (-115) 2.3
a= (-115 x 2.3 ) =264.5
