I was in the orient and they use water and toilet paper to clean themselves. Isn't stupid that we just wipe and sort of attach everything to the surrounding area of the anus? Wouldn't wet or moist towelets be better? For that matter, don't you feel the classic smell of s*** when you are being intimate?

Yep, using baby wipes are the way to go. Think about this: if you put your hand in a a pile of poop would you just take a paper towel and wipe it all off and consider it clean enough?
