Does sinus medicine dry up you cervical mucus? Should you take it if you are misreable, but know you will be ovulating soon?

Cold remedies do affect the cervical mucus. To conceive, you need for your CM to be plentiful, watery, and slippery (like egg white, so it's called EWCM). CM will become EWCM around ovulation, and will be thick and sticky the rest of the month. Many women have trouble conceiving because of poor CM quality at the time of ovulation. Drinking a lot of water will help if you have poor CM.

Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) will dry up CM just like it dries up mucus in your sinuses. Not a good idea to use during ovulation if you are trying to conceive.

Guaifenesin (the ingredient people are talking about when they mention Robitussin for fertility) is an expectorant, in other words it loosens mucus and phlegm so you can cough it up. Guaifenesin will improve CM quality for the same reason, it makes it thinner and runnier.

If you take Guaifenesin to improve CM, *don't* go gulping down a bunch of Robitussin. a) There are no kinds of Robi that have only Guaifenesin as an active ingredient, b) Guaifenesin is not even in most kinds of Robi at all, and c) Some ingredients in some kind of Robi are associated with birth defects. Not to mention it tastes horrible and is expensive.

Instead, buy plain Guaifenesin tablets which are now available over the counter.

Hope that helps,
Maureen

In May i was suffering from a severe, month long sinus infection. I was popping Guiafen (decongestant) like candy. I ended up getting pregnant...not sure how cuz i can hardly remember having any sex that month...i felt so sick. Turns out i miscarried (nothing to do with the med). But anyway...i was just reading in Toni W's book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" that the decongestant type pills like that actually help you out a lot. My CM was probably the best it had ever been and prob helped me conceive...funny huh. Hope that helps you. My doc said that robitussin helps too.

When you can't get pregnant, and things look good from the outside, it can be extremely frustrating.
The first thing to consider is how long have you been trying. About 80% of couples will get pregnant after six months of trying, and about 90% will be pregnant after 12 months of trying to get pregnant. Anyway this is a great methid to get pregnant fast https://tr.im/a276e

I would suggest using something that is an expectorant, think mucinex, because this will actually aide in your fertility. It softens the mucous membranes and makes it easier for the sperm to travel through. Good luck and feel better.

Okay, from memory what I learned about 10 years ago: if you take something that thins your mucous or loosens the cough that is actually good because it also thins your cervical mucous. Not something that drys you like Sudafed. Good luck. Call your GYN/infertility doc tomorrow to confirm.
