take half the diameter - and square it - multiply it by itself (but you probably knew that). for example if the diameter is 6 inches, take 3 inches and multiply it by 3 3x3=9 and then multiply it by 3.14

take the given diameter and divide it by 2, that gives you the radius... once you have the radius finish the problem. I assume you already have the formula for the area of a circle using the radius.

First the radius of a circle is equal to 1/2 the diameter
r = d/2
formula for an area of a circle is
a = pi(r)^2
a = pi(d/2)^2
a= pi(d^2/4)

You can't do it with the diameter. The formula is radius squared times pi, divided by 2

The most frequently encountered formula is A = pi*r^2. But since r = d/2, A = (pi/4)*d^2.

radius is half the diameter
area is pi x radius squared
so area is pi x d/2 squared or pi x d sq/ 4
