Just a rough estimate would be okay, if anyone has had any experience with this, or if there are any mechanics out there =-) My heater went out on a 2000 chevy blazer.

It of course depends on the make and model of the car, and if it's the heater or the blower. If it's the heater it's going to be a lot more expensive than the blower. I was fortunate to have to just replace the blower which cost me $40.00 for the part (Pontiac Sunfire). I did the installation myself which was fairly simple. It's held on by a couple bolts and has a set of wires that clip into the unit. Take the old one out, slip the new one in, bolt it, clip the wires back on and you're set to go. The heater itself will probably be better off done by a mechanic, unless you are one. The old antifreeze needs to be drained and the system needs to be flushed along with replacing the heating core. Not sure of the price of the part (again it depends on the car), but the labor will be about 2 hours at whatever the mechanic charges per hour(usually about $45.00 per hour). Call any autopart store for the price of the part. And whatever you do, make sure it's not just the blower before you spend all that on the heater. If the fan doesn't come on when you turn the switch, it's the fan (or even just a fuse). If the fan comes on, but no heat...plan on at least a couple hundred for the whole job.

Is your pal's heater a warmth pump? It freezing does not propose this is broken, this is only been strolling too long in too cool an ecosystem. pass away it by myself for multiple hours to furnish it a threat to defrost. As to fixing it, however if this is not that cool exterior (40 tiers or warmer, quite frequently), then in all hazard it do no longer choose for frozen over, different than your pal is calling for unreasonably warm temperatures interior of (I on no account set my warmth warmer than 68). which would be asking too much of a warmth pump. working too long in cool temps, or having a low refrigerant situation could make it in all hazard for a warmth pump to freeze over...and as quickly because it starts to frost somewhat bit, it frosts plenty, rapidly. Your pal ought to easily want a maximum existence like-up of refrigerant. Of direction, if it demands a maximum existence like-up then there may well be maximum in all hazard a gentle leak someplace, and that could desire to be repaired. If that suggestion is coming from one tech, you need to do stable to ask for a 2d opinion from yet yet another enterprise. Have this records in hand while you call, an counseled customer will in all hazard no longer quite frequently get bamboozled like an uninformed one will. How plenty will it fee? you haven't any longer given us sufficient records for absolutely everyone to make some thing like a honest guess. absolutely everyone who does guess in this representation is only pulling numbers out of a hat.
