You might also call some of the realty offices in the area, a lot of time they represent individuals with apartments for lease or rent.

You can also look in the local newspaper classified ads section, usually apartments will advertise. Some of the these newspaper classified might even be online. New York Times surely has a classified dept. The areas are usually broken down by numbers.

If you are getting a job there, the human resource department at your new employment will sometimes have listings.

I had alot of luck with the pennysaver. I'm in nassau. Newsday is pretty good too.
